It's too hot.

That's why I'm not posting as much. The lappy (Matt's laptop is what I use to blog on) although portable, gets the best internet connection from our office, which is closest to being the hottest room in our un-airconditioned apartment. I just don't think I should get all sweaty from typing, but if I stay in that room too long, that is what happens. Our hottest room is the kitchen; it's even gotten so bad that I try to wash dishes at certain times in the day (early morning, around midnight) when it's coolest and then stay out of the kitchen as much as I can during the day. The humidity is sucking my will to live.

I went to see Phoenix, French Kicks and The Dirty Things, this past Friday at the Double Door. I thought it was hot in my apartment! I was sweating balls at the show. The Double door has A/C right? It's not like I was seeing Madonna; the a/c should have been going strong. Besides the uncomfortable heat, I had a great time at the show. I didn't know much by the first two bands, but both surprized me. Phoenix isn't a band that I would usually listen to; it's a little poppy for my standards, but live, they totally rocked. I do, howver, love this video for "Consolation Prizes", so check it out if you have some time. Also, you can watch this HORRIBLE video for "Too Young" which was featured in the movie Lost in Translation. (both videos can found at this link.) Don't ask. I guess the French think Fish Mongers are romantic or something like that.

Just so you all know, my 10 year high school reunion is on August 19th. I'm 100% sure that I am not going to go. I really can't image how much fun I would have. All the people I want to see from high school I do, so what's the point of dropping $75 on "heavy" appetizers (as the invite says) and an open bar? Anyone who reads this - did you go to your 10yr reunion? Did you enjoy it? If you didn't go, do you regret not going?

Last night, the ladies of this blog enjoyed a nice hangout at Becky's house, which included a viewing of Wierd Science. It seems like forever that I have been talking about this David Bowie and Tina Turner Pepsi commercial that is based roughly off the scene in Wierd Science where Gary (Anthony Michael Hall) and Wyatt create Lisa (Kelly LeBrock) on the computer and with a barbie doll. I know I mentioned it a thousand times, but people just look at me blankly. Apparently I never mentioned it to Becky, because she remembered the commercial! Thank you! I knew I wasn't making this up.

Anyway, thanks to Ken and his recent post about Top 10 Videos of the 80's, I have been obsessed with You Tube. So, I typed in David Bowie and Tina Turner and I found this little gem. I think I remember a longer version of this commercial, but they don't have it on You Tube.

Now I just have to find this other stupid commercial that I remember and no one else does. It's a commercial for a cereal called "Great Grains" or something like that. A woman is eating breakfast and then it goes to a split screen in black and white of this guy dressed late 19th century garb. The woman asks him where is from and he says "I'm from a time when grains were kept whole." It's a stupid commercial, and it drives me crazy that I remember it so damn well.

Anyone else have a commercial from their childhood that they remember and no one else does?

While I was at the Gap Monday night, a man came in the store and took close to $600 worth of kids clothing.

The thing that annoys me the most about this is that I was the only one on the kids side that night, helping a customer in the far back of the store while some d-bag stuffed his bags full of boys polos and cargo shorts. I'm so pissed I didn't see this guy! My managers think the customer I was helping was the decoy. I feel like I've been duped! I want to catch those bastards myself.

On a lighter note, this Friday starts the Chicago Art Dealers Association Vision 11. During these two weeks, there will be lectures, special performances and events. On Friday, there will be a trolley that will run between River North and the West Loop Gallery Districts. My gallery is also having an opening. Click here for more info.

Apparently, in the past, this event was call Absolute Vision, and was sponsored by, cleverly enough, Absolute Vodka. I've heard rumors that it was pretty wild. This year we are sposored by Fiji water. I guess they are going for a cleaner approach.
