Wedding Etiquette

This weekend, all contributors to this blog - minus Mike (we wish you could be there!) - are going to celebrate the union of our friends Dustin and Laura. I’m super excited to go to this wedding. I’ve known Dustin since first grade, so it’s nice to see such a familiar face grow up and get hitched. However, this wedding has got me questioning a few things.

1) Dress: Christie and I have been discussing this for at least two weeks now. The wedding is February 25th - obviously still in winter - and we have both decided on black dresses. Here is where the problem comes in: shoes. What kind of shoes should we wear? We both have strappy spring/summer heels, and really, if you go shopping, that is all there is to buy. So do we rock the strappy heels sans nylons, or do we wear the nylons with the strappy shoes?

2) Gift: Okay, I’ve asked around a bit, and apparently the minium gift for a wedding is $100. I’ve even heard $75 per person. Now as you may or may not know, Matt and I are poor. That is one of the reasons I have three jobs. I’d love to give $150 to the deserving couple, but even $100 is pushing it for me. So, can you do a gift, let’s say a handmade piece of art by yours truly, plus a lesser amount of money?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the manner.

What says love more than fish? Here are some pics from the Shedd Aquarium I took last Friday.

I have returned! At least until I fail to blog again which seems to be a habit of mine. How do I know that, you ask? I spent most of last Tuesday meticulously combing the blog for any mention of my last name and it was a theme that often came up. Since I've been entrusted with our nations most important resource, lazy students, I've got to be careful. Those little buggers are resourceful. Although apparently not too smart.

Sorry we missed the fun last night, but let me and the beck know about any bowling. I bowled a wicked 140 a couple weeks ago. That's Olympic quality for me.

Typed up yesterday:

I'm going to take advantage of some downtime at work by typing up my comments here and then posting them when I get home, so bear with me if Jen (or someone else) covers this same information before I get it online. Last night was our first time meeting the almighty Ken from Gapers Blog, and he was just as friendly as his internet writings would suggest. He even forked over a surprise "Best of 2005" mix, which my crappy RCA boombox here at work seems to be choking on. I got through about half of track 2 (a Local H tune) when it skipped to the beginning, then went to track 4 and stopped completely. I blame the equipment and not the mix maker. It's sad to think that I do the majority of my listening on something that's no bigger than a loaf of bread, but I can't seem to convince my employers to remove the file cabinets in my cubicle to make way for some 5 foot floor-standing speakers. Anyway, we once again passed over Lincoln Square's "scariest" bar, Carola's Hansa Clipper, in favor of the more inviting Ricochet's. Drinks were downed, and plans for bowling were made - now we just have to pick the day and drag Megan along for the ride.

Do you ever get on the "L" and sit next to someone who looks pretty normal but then she ends up talking to herself (you realize this after you attempt to answer and she can't hear you) and peeling an orange with her teeth and spitting the peel on the floor of the train? Then people get on the train after you and they think you are insane as she is because you are sitting next to her and apparently seem to be her best buddy but there is no where else to go on the train because it's packed and you have to sit there and just deal with crazy orange peel spitter?

That happened to me last night. And let me tell you, it was awesome.

Friday night, I work my first overnight at the Gap. That's right, 8 pm to 4 am. We are doing a store wide inventory. Good thing I'm working with my favorite people there or this could be a long night. I've already mentioned going to a five o'clock bar for after work drinks, but at this point and time, no one's with me.

I watched Teen Jeopardy today and kicked ass.

Just so you all know, the groundhog saw his shadow yesterday. That means 6 more weeks of winter. Actually, Phil predicts "Six more weeks of mild winter weather", which seems rather precise for a groundhog. Technically, isn't there 6 more weeks of winter regardless? The first day of spring is March 20th, which is what, 6 weeks away? Any way you slice it, it's been a mild or - what I like to think of as -a fantastic winter, so there should be no bitching about the 6 more technical or groundhog predicted weeks of winter anyway.

On Monday, I saw the movie Maria Full of Grace. It was an excellent film minus watching Maria swallow large packettes of heroin. I can barely swallow a vitamin, so this was a little too much for me. Anyway, while looking at the news, I found this article, about little puppies being used to transport heroin. The strange thing is they used mostly purebred Labrador Retrievers. Call me crazy, but aren't purebred Labs like $450 a dog? Seems like a rather expensive suitcase if you ask me.

I really have no idea where I am going with this. Just preparing myself for 6 more weeks of winter.

I feel really bad taking away from Christie's post. Seriously. I didn't watch the State of the Union last night - I opted for more relaxing things (yoga) because I knew I would get angry just listening to Bush speak. After reading Christie's post, my thoughts were confirmed.

Joe tagged me, so here are the 7 songs I am really into right now. Get ready.

1) Album of the Year - The Good Life
2) The Commander Thinks Aloud-The Long Winters
3) Only You - Yaz
4) Precious Things - Depeche Mode
5) It's the Nighttime - Josh Rouse
6) Anytime- My Morning Jacket
and . . .
7) We Built this City - Starship.

Okay. Not really #7, but I had to write it.

I'm supposed to tag more peeps, but who knows who reads this and has a blog. I'll tag Matt for shits and giggles.
